It’s amazing how much certain words in different languages sometimes sound like something completely different. For instance, Ringo Starr was featured in a Japanese apple juice commercial based on the fact that his name sounded like “Ringo Sutta” which means grated apple. So of course he had to star in the commercial right? How many other Ringo Starr’s are there in the world? Plus it helped capture just a bit of added fame for Ringo as well as for the juice since he’s been a known name for decades. Despite the fact that the Beatles disbanded a long time ago and he’s been on his own since, that stardom never really goes away.

I feel a little guilty for admitting that at one point I kind of mixed him up with a member of the Monkees, but seeing as how I was a kid and didn’t know any better it’s understandable. Plus if you’ve never been much of a Beatles fan then it’s really easy to mix them up when you’re young. But once I got older and realized I did a bit of research on the Beatles and found out that they and the Monkees are kind of alike in some ways but otherwise are very, very different. For one, the Monkees never attained the same level of fame that the Beatles did, not even close. If you want to be honest I think the Monkees attained the same level of fame that Ringo, George, and Paul all had while doing their solo careers.

No wait, that wouldn’t be right either because George and Paul went on to be pretty successful. But they might have matched Ringo since he was successful but not nearly as much as he was while still a part of one of the greatest bands in the world. His fame has never fully gone away though and for Beatlemaniacs it’s still a very big privilege to meet the man.

It’s also not too surprising to see that Ringo is starring in a commercial in another country either since the Beatles fame took him and the others all over the globe until they finally stopped touring as much and stayed in the studio. By that time however it seems like the band was slowly but surely falling apart as pressures from within and without were starting to tear at them in ways that would eventually prove fatal to the band and their chances of continuing onward together.

It’s kind of sad to hear that after John Lennon’s passing that Paul didn’t even bother to show up because he thought it might lead to false rumors of a reunion that wasn’t likely to happen. Ringo and George were there however to pay their respects to their friend and former bandmate, which just seems right and expected. When George passed away however Paul and Ringo both showed up, and that at least was how it should have been.

Ringo is still kicking around and doing his thing, hopefully for a good number of years to come.
