How old is Pattie Boyd?

Pattie was born in Somerset on 17th March 1944 – making her 74.

Her sister is fellow model Jenny Boyd who was married (twice) to Fleetwood Mac co-founder Mick Fleetwood.

Pattie began her career as a model in 1962 after a client at Elizabeth Arden’s salon – where she worked- suggested she should start modelling.

She has graced the covers of Vogue, Vanity Fair and Elle and been snapped by some of the acclaimed photographers of all time including David Bailey, Terence Donovan and Brian Duffy.

Boyd and fellow model Jean Shrimpton were viewed as the embodiment of the British female look in the swinging sixties and model Twiggy was said to have based her appearance on Pattie’s look.

When was she married to Eric Clapton and George Harrison?

Pattie was married to Beatles’ in 1966 after a two-year relationship.

They couple split in 1974 after George had repeated infidelities – his affair with fellow Beetle Ringo Starr’s wife Maureen was said to be “the final straw” for Pattie.

Their divorce was finalised in 1977.

Pattie moved on to fellow musician Eric Clapton.

Eric had been creating music with George – who she was married to at the time – when he fell in love with her.

He even briefly dated her sister Paula to satisfy his urges for her.

When Boyd rejected Eric in 1970 he fell into a deep depression and heroin dependency.

After a three year self-imposed exile, persistent Eric recovered from his substance abuse and pursued Patti once again.

In 1974 she agreed to leave George for Eric and in 1979 they married.

Patti left Eric in 1987 because of his alcoholism and extra-marital affairs.

Their divorce was finalised in 1989.

After her high-profile marriages to George and Eric she has gone on to find happiness with her property developer husband Rod Weston

Was Layla written about her?

Eric Clapton wrote his hit song Layla about Patti while she was still married to George.

His 1970 album with Derek and the Dominos – Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs – was written as a proclamation of his love for her.

The song Layla was named as such after the The Story of Layla and Majnnun by Nizami – which is a tale of unrequited love.

Eric also wrote Bell Bottom Blues and Wonderful Tonight about Patti.
