On the current edition of the Hot 100, BTS rule with their single “Butter,” which shot back to No. 1 just a few days ago. The tune swapped spots with the even-newer tune from the same band, “Permission to Dance,” which debuted in first place one frame ago. At the time, it supplanted BTS’s own “Butter,” so the group has now replaced themselves on the competitive chart’s throne two weeks in a row.

Since its founding in 1958, no musical act of any kind has ever replaced themselves at No. 1 on the Hot 100 in back-to-back weeks. Only a relatively small number have done so once, and even fewer have managed the showing twice.

When looking at those acts that have replaced themselves at No. 1 on the Hot 100 more than once, BTS join fellow superstars Drake, The Beatles, Usher, T.I. and Justin Bieber. The Beatles became the first act to accomplish this feat more than once, which is especially impressive considering the Fab Four made history when they also became the first to do so at all way back in 1964. Amazingly, after replacing themselves at the peak of the Hot 100 once, The Beatles did so again, with three tracks from the band ruling one right after the other with no breaks between them.
