SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The late Lou Reed, Syracuse University alum and frontman for The Velvet Underground, once called The Beatles “garbage” in a 1987 interview for the Library of Congress.PBS animated the 28-year-old rediscovered interview — titled “Lou Reed on Guns & Ammo” — as part of its Blank on Blank series.In the interview, Reed said his band, the Velvet Underground, was on a completely different level than its contemporaries. The interviewer followed by asking what he thought of John Lennon and The Beatles.”I never liked The Beatles,” Reed said. “I thought they were garbage.”
