Review: Ringo Starr does his legacy proud with a little help from his friends in the All-Starr Band

The All-Starr Band is an odd proposition, the world’s most affable drummer sharing the spotlight that’s rightfully his with the rotating cast of lead singers who back him on his own songs, from Todd Rundgren (which makes almost perfect sense) to Greg Rolie of Santana, Richard Page of Mr. Mister and Steve Lukather of Toto. And all he’s gotta do is (pause) act naturally, revisiting the role that made him famous as the Beatle most likely to take on a supporting role.He clearly hung onto the spotlight for more songs on the rotating stage at Tuesday’s Celebrity Theatre concert than he ever could have managed in the course of an actual Beatles performance. But I can’t imagine anyone who paid to see a Ringo Starr show would have traded “Octopus’s Garden,” “Oh My My” or “I’m the Greatest,” none of which he did, for any given Toto song, as good as those songs sounded.
