John Lennon: A Brief Look Back at a Stunning Life | Eastern Daily News

Growing up John Winston Ono Lennon (October 9, 1940, Liverpool, United Kingdom – December 8, 1980, New York City, USA), was a musician, singer and composer. He was the founder of one of the most popular bands of all time — The Beatles. John Lennon was the only child from the marriage of Julia Stanley and Alfred Lennon. When John was five years old, his father left the family. His mother, started a new relationship after her husband left, she sent Lennon to his sister, believing that he would be better off growing up in a real family. Thus, John spent his childhood with his aunt Mimi and her husband George Smith, at Mendips, 251 Menlove Avenue in Liverpool. Mimi and George, who didn’t have children of their own, became John’s replacement parents. Mimi was wonderful but strict, and George taught him to draw and bought him his first musical instrument — the harp. Death of his mother When John Lennon was 17, his mother Julia was returning home after she visited him. She died when a drunken policeman hit her with his car. His Mother’s death hit Lennon hard. Many years later, when he became a famous musician, he wrote songs called “Julia”, “Mother” and “My Mummy’s Dead”, dedicated to his mother. He also gave his son the name of Julian, after her. The loss of his mother strengthened his friendship with Paul McCartney, who also lost his mother when he was 14 years old. Education
