MILWAUKEE, WI — A Milwaukee newspaper made one of those blunders that made the correction more enduring than the original story. And Jim Romenesko, a widely read media blogger, got wind of it, which means it may take some time before the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel can live down the epic mistake.

It is rich (and we sympathize in an era where copy editors are shed like snake skin during staff downsizing). “A story in Friday’s Journal Sentinel on Jerry Kramer being nominated for the Pro Football Hall of Fame incorrectly named Ringo Starr as a center for the Packers instead of Jim Ringo,” the one-sentence correction read.

Ringo Starr, of course, is a musician and former drummer for the Beatles. Jim Ringo, who died in 2007, was a Hall of Fame center and coach for the Green Bay Packers. Kramer is a legendary right guard for the Packers who was named a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame last week.
